Local SEO for insurance agents: where to start
How Medicare and insurance agents can show up in local search: Google Business Profile, service-area pages, reviews and consistent listings.
When someone searches “Medicare agent near me,” Google usually shows a map with three businesses before any regular results. Being one of those three is worth more than almost any ad. Here is where to start.
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Your Business Profile is the listing that appears in the map. Claim it, verify it and fill in everything:
- Choose the most accurate primary category, such as Insurance agency, then add relevant secondary categories.
- Add your services and a short description in plain language.
- Upload real photos of you, your office and your team.
- Set accurate hours, including “by appointment” if that is how you work.
If you work from home and meet clients elsewhere, you can set a service area and hide your address. Google’s guidelines explain the options.
2. Give each place you serve its own page
A single “areas we serve” list helps a little. A useful page for each main town or county helps more. Write something genuinely local: where you meet clients, the hospitals and pharmacies people ask about, and the local seminars you run. Avoid copying the same page and swapping the town name; that rarely works and reads badly.
3. Ask for reviews, steadily
Reviews influence both rankings and decisions. The best system is simple: after a good appointment, send a short text or email with your review link. A few new reviews every month beats a burst once a year. Reply to every review, briefly and without sharing private details.
4. Keep your name, address and phone consistent
Your business name, address and phone number should match everywhere: your website, Google, Facebook, Yelp, your carrier directories and any agent directories. Inconsistent listings make it harder for Google to trust which details are right.
5. Make your website do its part
- Use your town and services naturally in page titles and headings.
- Make sure the site loads quickly and works on phones.
- Connect Google Search Console so you can see which searches you appear for.
How long does it take?
Local search usually takes a few months of steady work to move. Anyone promising guaranteed rankings is not being straight with you. What you can control is the work: a complete profile, useful pages, regular reviews and consistent listings.
That monthly work is what our Website + SEO plan covers, with a plain-English report so you can see what was done.
